A self-introduction to our association
We all have with a roof above our heads, enough food and observe misery and poverty only from the distance. Does this misery even affect us?
Especially the children of Nepal, who through no fault of their own are born into unbearable adversity, need our help. In the 21st century can we still say: ”This is just a drop in the ocean?”. Can we really leave a hungry child without parents lying in the streets and walk past by it?
The friends of Nepalhilfe say NO! Technical advancement, shorter travel distances into the Himalaya country and our prosperity gave us the ability to give children back their smile. It can be very rewarding and liberating to share the wealth and abundance we experience with others! Let’s build bridges to deliver hope instead of pity to our next.
Evolving from private activities to help children in need back in January 1994 the “Freundeskreis Nepalhilfe e.V. (FNH)” was founded and incorporated by the county court of Darmstadt on the 26.11.95. In cooperation with the Nepalese partner association “Forum for the Welfare of Himalayan Children” a project, with and by Nepalese people from Pokhara (West-Nepal), arose. It is amazing that we now count 66 children who experience a new family life in our children village. By extension and further construction activities we hope to assure a place to live, food, school education and career advancement as well as medical treatment for about 100 children. At the beginning of 2001 our children moved into the first three houses in our children’s village.
From far you can already hear the children’s laughter. Busily they do their homework, share with a matter of course and develop a community that fascinate all visitors: We are at the children’s village of FNH. Without the restless commitment and dedication of our local staff the project wouldn’t have been so successful. They care for the children as if they were their own children. One of our teachers once said:” It’s nicer to stay with the children in the evening than go out with friends”.
Don’t stay frustrated because of the poverty in this world. Let’s get up and do something against it! All members and friends of FNH work voluntarily for our children. We are no strictly organized organisation that knows their members only by numbers. We consider ourselves as a big family, where everyone can put their ideas and projects into practice with the support and guidance of our steering committee. Our children gain a new home and we gain a lot of satisfaction from this for our lives.
We call them „our children“, because many of us developed closer relationships to “our” children during their travels to Nepal. It is a family feeling we gain through the small size of the association. They are not any children from somewhere: They are children we can call by their names, children that are in our heart.
