Financial situation of FNH
In a magnificent way many sponsors supported us with many earmarked immediate-help-donations. These donations will be used for construction, restoration and protection of the children’s village. Unfortunately due to these earmarked immediate-help-donations less individual donations for the running costs of the children’s village were collected. Self-evidently our children are taken care of through the sponsorships but we are lacking money for staff salaries and maintenance of the village. Please keep on supporting us with your donations. «
Donations tour through Germany in support of FNH
The Snow Lions from Kalimpong (India) are the most famous Tibetan cultural group. The Tibetan cultural dances, the performance of snow lions and yaks were uniquely beautiful in the private presentation. Full of enthusiasm we would propose to organise a tour for donations for this professional dance group. This group is built of 12 young dancers and musicians. Planned is a tour in 2010. From 2008 on we would like to start preparing for the tour. For the performances we need adequate rooms.
Please inform us, if you know a possibility or maybe want to organize a performance of the Snow Lions yourself. «
Sponsorship for our tenth graders
A sponsorship for job training comprises a support of one of our adolescent in our hostel for at least three years with a donation of 50 Euros. You don’t enter into a contractual relationship and can quit your donations any time with a written note. Our sponsorships help one specific child to advance his/her career and his way into the working life through apprenticeships and academic studies.
That is the official formulation on our application form for sponsorships. This year five boys and one girl leave our children’s village. For these young people a sponsorship is the start into their new life. After a successful termination of the tenth class all six will move to the hostel in Kathmandu to start their advanced academic – and job education. A big step which needs a lot of guidance and supervision. A vital contact through letters or Emails on the side of the sponsor should help the young adolescent in his career advancement.
Sunita Gurung is already supported through a sponsorship as well as Tek Prasad Gurung, Angchering Sherpa and Bhuwan Subedi. The two boys, Shanker G.C. and Gobin Pun still need a sponsor. For the year 2009 we are looking for 6 more sponsorship. It is nice to see how the young people find their way in their own life although it sometimes is hard to let our beloved children (of full age) go. «
Individual support beyond sponsorships for job education
During the last 10 years 10 young adolescent left our children’s village. Three girls and six boys live in our hostel in Kathmandu. They stay there to continue their advance school education. Tek Baral on the other hand, one of the ten adolescent, decided to train for a taxi driver and passed, without having a school leaving certificate, the test to become a taxi driver in the first try. Since the middle of November Tek drives through Pokhara a Taxi and lives with his grandfather. Thanks to his sponsor a partial financing of a used taxi, year of construction 1996, was made possible. The rest of the costs took the FNH as a credit base for Tek Baral. He can now pay the credit to FNH on a monthly basis. As soon as the complete car is paid the vehicle registration certificated is handed over to Tek.
Similarly as in this case we should think of supporting our young people with micro credits if they want to stand on their own feet and become independent. The children cannot expect any help from their poor relatives. «
Planned projects for the children’s village 2008
- For our PC lessons we need up to 20 USB-Sticks (storage device for PC data). Since we have no telephone connection in our children’s village the children can take USB Sticks with their computer data into the city and send their Emails in an Internet-Café.
- The children’s village need after almost seven years a good conventional telephone network. But Nepal-Telecom is not concerned with installing phone cables in the rural regions. Although our children’s village is only 5 km away from the city, we have to cover the costs for a phone cable ourselves. A phone is essentially important for us! Mobile phones alone are not sufficient since they don’t have a signal from the tower all the time. The shared costs with other adjacent owner for a phone cable would be approx. 2000 Euro.
- A canopied playground is planned. In the children’s village live 19 children below 10 years. During the monsoon time from June till mid September our children don’t have the opportunity to play outside. Inside the houses there is not enough room for the little ones to play so that they urge to play outside. The roofed playground with sand box, slide, turning platform etc. would cost approx. 4.500 Euro.
- The houses health station/office and library/handicraft workshop need urgently a new paint coating. On Nepal’s market place you can get a latex colour of good quality that is even weather-proofed. For both houses the colour and painting would cost around 700 Euro.
- After the experiences with the landslide, we believe a relaxation and prayer room for children and staff is necessary. A small room were you can withdraw yourself for awhile. A place where you can pray, meditate or just be quiet for awhile. This room could be built next to the big tree in the upper third of the children’s village. Expected costs would be 2.500 Euro.
In all four houses the showers and lavatories should be tiled. Furthermore a washing machine for washing of bed covers was bought. A room for the washing machine is next to the handicraft workshop below the library. This room also needs tiling. Expected costs are around 500 Euro.
For creation of further garden land and building of a stable greenhouse which cannot be destroyed by hail another 1000 Euro is needed. «
Again and again we observe that our children have failings in the science subjects, mathematics and English. Certainly is the instruction in these subjects at a governmental school, Shree Shanta Secondary School, next to our children’s village less qualified and on the other hand we need more volunteers who teach in these subjects. Especially in the morning and evening when all children do their homework, help would be necessary. Our children’s village teacher, Ganesh G.C., cannot teach all children at the same time. More than 70 children live in the children’s village. Some of them are intelligent enough to go to a private school in the city. But also the weak learners should get a chance.
Who would be willing to help as a volunteer in the children’s village for 3-5 months or help financially to employ another Nepali teacher for mathematics, English and science? Maybe we can create a room for science where our children can do chemical and physical experiments with our teacher. In the minds of Nepal’s society chemistry and physics are rarely represented. An example: To prevent lice and worms to find the vegetable’s roots, lice and worm medicine are spread on the fields. “It’s just medicine”, but that these substances are also hazardous nobody knows. You can find similar knowledge for physics. Electric current is power from the cable. But what electric current really is nobody knows. «
New Projects
Development project for the village Singdi – Lamjung through building a health station and establishing a hydro power project financed by the BMZ funds and FNH together with “Nepalhilfe im kleinen Rahmen”.
At two-days-walk from Pokhara the mountain village Singdi is situated at a height of 2000 m with approx. 300 households and 2500 inhabitants. Taking into account the neighbouring villages around Singdi, about 6000 people benefit from the village development project. Dammed mountain water is guided via a tube system into the turbines who will produce enough electricity for Singdi and the surrounding villages. Every connected household pays 1,20 Euro per month to cover the ongoing costs of the hydro power facility. Left over money will later be used for the health post of the village. This project will also soon be realised and will be supported by Lions Club, Rotary Club and religious organisations by so called Health Camps. During the Health Camps a team of doctors will do visits to the village for some days distributed over a whole year. They offer free treatment and even operations. If we have put the project into practice no village inhabitant has to walk the long way to the remote hospital in Pokhara and die from his/her at first minor diseases. What we need right now is the financial background from FNH side. «
